The <br />Barx soil is a major component of Map Units 70B and D70B, and a secondary <br />component (30% of) Map Unit 98E (Darvey-Barx Complex, 0-3% Slopes). <br />Based on, comparison of Soil Baseline and Surface Ownership Maps, Unit 9$E <br />would appear to be the predominant soil tyke on. the Morgan property in the <br />permit area. <br />Permit Attachment 2.049-6 is a letter dated October 1.4; 1992, from the Norwood <br />District Conservationist for the Soil Conservation Service (now NRCS). The <br />letter includes the following statement: <br />J ?. <br />There as naprimefarmland within the boundary of the <br />proposed mine. One of the mapping units, Barx fine sandy p '1 <br />loam, has the potential to be prime Yit is irrigated with an <br />adequate and dependable supply of water, Based on my <br />October 13, 1992 visit to the site and experience with <br />available irrigation water supplies in this area, the Barx <br />unit is not prime. <br />2. The application narrative states that °70H and D70B were covered under th e 1.99 <br />letter. Soil type 98E is a resurvey of the original 70B soil type covered in the ` <br />1992 letter. Contusion: there is no prime farmland soil types in the WFC permit <br />boundary" ? <br />The original Prince Farmland determination was made over 15 years ago, it was <br />based on NRCS assessment of available irrigation water supplies in tine area, and <br />the MRCS soil survey for the area may have been revised since that time.
