Barton and Gilleland,
The Division has reviewed the adequacy responses submitted to the Division, in the packet of materials received here
on July 27, 2010. The responses appear to address all of the remaining items that have been in the Division's
adequacy letters. For clarity, some of these items are discussed in the following paragraphs.
Application Form, Item 3, Page 1.
The land area to be included in the amendment is now correctly presented on the revised application page 1.
Exhibit A - Leal Description Map.
The newest revision of Map A-3 contains the required changes and is now adequate.
Exhibit C - Mining Plan Maps.
The newest revisions of the following maps contain the required changes and are now adequate: Map C-1, Map C-2,
Map C-3, and Map C-4.
Exhibit D - Mining Plan.
The Division wishes to clarify the reasoning behind its comment concerning the possibility for instability and/or
uncontrolled drainage along the proposed southern boundary, where it abuts the boundary of the Crader Pit. In the
specific event that the ridge separating the two pits is fully removed, this office has received no plan describing the
coordination between the adjoining operators or demonstrating that either one operating independently can maintain
stability in the other pit. Additionally, there is nothing in either permit file that describes the relationship of the
elevations in the two pit floors. As such, the Division was simply stating that if the ridge were mined through and the
Crader Pit floor was lower, that proper practices should be employed to control erosion, sediment transport, and
stormwater control. This language is necessary to include since actual onsite surface grading does not always match
the scenario in the approved plan. Unless the operator wishes to comment further, this exhibit is considered adequate.
Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan.
Regarding the reclamation along the proposed southern boundary which abuts the Crader Pit, please see the discussion
under Exhibit D, above, and unless the operator wishes to comment further, this part of the exhibit is adequate.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
