A thorough rinse with deionized water is sufficient for decontamination
between sample locations. Sampling equipment rinse water is also screened for acceptable
conductivity readings (<50 µS/cm) before each new location is sampled.
Calibrate the pH meter for in-field parameter measurement (pH/conductivity /temperature) prior to
each day of use. Sample collection should proceed sequentially from the location with historically low
conductivity to the location with historically high conductivity to minimize potential sample cross-
contamination.
3.3.2 Sample Collection Methods
Water levels will be measured prior to sampling monitoring wells. Water levels will be used to
determine well casing volume. Each monitoring well will be purged of three well volumes before
sampling. Purge water is contained and transported to Canon City Mill for disposal. Each well will be
purged using one of the following devices:
1) PVC-bailer
2) air-driven bladder pump
3) dedicated submersible pump
E
The pump and tubing (or bailer, or other non-dedicated sampling equipment) will be decontaminated
prior to sample collection. After purging, a sample will be pumped directly into the sample bottle(s).
Field measurement will be carried out during the sampling, by filling a 250 mL beaker and measuring
ph and conductivity with a pH/Conductivity meter. Samples will be labeled, filtered (where indicated
in Section 3.2), preserved (where indicated in Section 3.2), stored on ice and shipped directly to the
laboratory on the day of sample collection. A thorough rinse with deionized water is sufficient for
decontamination between sample locations, provided the rinsate water meets the criteria of <50
µS/cm.
