Environmental Protection Plan, Schwartzwalder Mine 5-1
• 5. DESIGNATED CHEMICALS EVALUATION
No designated chemicals are currently in use or being stored at the mine site. Rule 6.4.20(5) requires that
the EPP contain a presentation and discussion of the types, quantities, and concentrations of designated
chemicals within the permit area, and a characterization of the designated chemicals as to:
• Known potential to affect human health, property or the environment;
• Expected concentrations, process solution volumes and fate of designated chemicals to be used in
existing and proposed extractive metallurgical processes; and
• Material safety data sheets (MSDSs) for designated chemicals.
Because no designated chemicals are being stored or used at the site, no MSDSs are included with this
EPP.
Small quantities of diesel fuel (less than 250 gallons) are stored on site for equipment operation during
reclamation. This fuel is housed in an above-ground tank with secondary containment, consisting of a
lined, bermed, impoundment with adequate capacity for spill containment.
The remaining resin column is located in a bermed facility inside the water treatment plant. The column
contains Dow 21K anion exchange resin for separation of uranium from water, and will be removed when
the water treatment plant is dismantled.
Rule 8.3 requires an Emergency Response Plan for designated chemicals used on site. Because no
designated chemicals are currently in use at the Schwartzwalder site, no Emergency Response Plan is
provided in this EPP.
C,
•
4109C.100731 Whetstone Associates
