Martin
Executive Director
Box 700
P
O
.
. Loretta E. Pineda
Nucla, Colorado 81424 Director
Re: Cotter Mine inspections and Reclamation Liability Review.
Dear Mr. Williams,
Please find enclosed inspection reports for the SM-18, CM-25, CLP-21, JD-6, Wright Group, and Mineral
Joe Claims reclamation permits. Overall the sites are in good order. CM-25 and CLP-21 reclamation is
noted as being very good to excellent. Stormwater, erosion, and sedimentation controls appear to be
functioning as designed given recent heavy rains in the area on all sites. The Mineral Joe Claims has
some bare areas that need some reseeding hopefully this fall or next spring.
As part of the normal monitoring and review of all mine sites DRMS does periodical assessments of the
reclamation liabilities. Within the reports it will be noted if a full update is necessary or whether given
the site's full reclamation it is not warranted. To aid the update process DRMS is requesting that Cotter
submit the amount of bond held for each of its DOE lease tract mines. The amounts will help staff
ensure that the DRMS database and permit files are accurate and determine if adjustments are
required. Your help in filling this request as soon as possible is appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to accompany staff on the inspections of these sites. As discussed in the
field the remainder of the Cotter permitted sites will be visited in September.
If you need additional information please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety,
Grand Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, or by telephone
no. 970.241.1117.
Sincerely,
G.
