a
Marr Mine Independent Oversight Inspection
Wednesday May 26, 2010 2 : 00 - 3 : 20
Weather conditions: cloudy, windy, mid-60' s, dry
This was an independent partial oversight inspection of the Marr
mine conducted by Christine Belka (OSMRE badge #182 ) . Prior to
the inspection I reviewed permit info online through the
Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety (DRMS) website and
recent DRMS inspection reports .
The mine ID sign was intact and contained all the necessary
information.
Driving to the facilities area I noted that Pond E (permanent
impoundment which has been Phase III released) is holding water
but not discharging. Ducks and frogs were present at the time of
inspection.
The facilities area is clear and maintained. The portion of
permitted land to the east and down slope of the office is well-
vegetated and stable. Lower portions of land exhibit slightly
less vegetative cover than the hillside but show no notable
signs of erosion.
Permanent impoundment Pond B was holding water but not
discharging. Discharge riser / culvert / weir structure and
emergency spillway were clear at the time of inspection.
Plentiful evidence of wildlife visitation was evident (burrows,
tracks, droppings, one elk was observed on site) .
Remaining roads are in good shape with only minor rutting and no
notable signs of erosion. Diversion channels appear functional
(no water was flowing at the time of inspection) and all
culverts examined were clean.
No compliance issues were noted as a result of this inspection.
Please contact Christine Belka, Environmental Protection
Specialist, at 303-293-5020 or cbelka@osmre . gov with any
questions regarding this report .
