Pineda
Director
I am requesting your assistance in the review of Technical Revision No. 67 (TR-67) for the Bowie No.
2 Mine. Bowie Resources LLC is proposing to construct a ventilation shaft in the Terror Creek
drainage. I would like Mike to review any ground water issues and Jim to review the cost estimate.
The shaft site is located on an existing drill pad accessed by an existing road. No new surface
disturbance is planned. The ventilation shaft will be bored from the bottom up to the top with the
cuttings placed at the coal waste stockpile. The shaft will be about 550 feet deep and have a rough
diameter of 20 feet. The entire shaft will be lined with concrete to minimize water infiltration, resulting
in a finished diameter of about 18.5 feet. Once the shaft is constructed, an escape hoist and nitrogen
generator will be installed on the shaft site pad. Power for the facilities will be from within the mine.
No ventilation fan is anticipated at this time.
Attached is one complete copy of the TR-67 submittal. The adequacy due date is August 18, 2010. I
would appreciate getting your adequacy review memos back by August 17. Please let me know if you
need additional review time.
If you need any additional information, please let me know. Thanks for your assistance.
Attachments
cc: Sandy Brown (without attachments)
c:/word2007/bowie2/tr67memo 1
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
