• There are process water/tailings pipelines located above grade at the site. The tailings disposal
line is a 2" HDPE double-walled pipe to provide for secondary containment. The recycle water
line is 1.25" HDPE double-walled pipe to provide for secondary containment. A tailings process
water analysis is provided in the appendix.
• Historic Mine Drainage:
On the approximately 8,000 tons of pre-existing, historic and abandoned waste rock that covers an
area of approximately 3.0 acres there is stormwater tun-off. Water samples are included in the
appendix of this SWMP. The proposed mining operation covered by DRMS permit M-2009-076
will process and re-impound this material in a regulated manner. BMP's for this area have been
developed.
There are no additional sources of historic mine drainage from anv tunnels adits, or other mine
workings in the permit boundaries.
Tailings Ponds:
As part of the proposed mining/milling operation (DRMS permit M-2009-076) a lined tailings
impoundment with an integral lined tailings pond will be constructed. The impacted area ranges
in size from'/4 acres upto 8 acres at a future date (10 years distant) of complete build-out. Maps
in Section 3 illustrate this area. BMP's have been developed to minimize flooding, run-off.
• Crushing Facilities:
The only exposed outdoor processing is the two stage crushing operation. Here rock is crushed
first in a jaw crusher, then in a roll crusher. The crushing unit is a 35' trailer mounted piece of
equipment. The final crushed product is transferred to a sheltered crushed ore bin. Only about 80
tons (55 cubic yards) of rock is crushed per 10 hour day shift. It is possible for stormwater to
contact crusher fines in this area, therefore BMP's will be created to address this.
• • On-site Waste Disposal:
There will be rather insignificant generation of rubbish waste associated with routine work habits
of upto 6 full-time employees. Several 55 gal. drums fitted with lids and trash bag liners will be
located outside for trash receptacles. BMP's will address trash maintenance.
• Stockpiles of Overburden, Raw Material, Intermediate Products, Byproducts, Finished
Products, or Waste Products:
o Overburden: Within the Tailings Impoundment (see Section 3 maps) there is a staging
area to stockpile salvaged topsoil for future reclamation measures that are prescribed in
the DRMS mining permit M-2009-076. The impacted area could measure upto 5,000 sq.
ft. BMP's will follow to address this area.
o Raw Material: The material to be processed was addressed above in the Loading and
Unloading Operatations.
o Intermediate Products: none
o Byproducts: none
o Finished Products: The gravity and flotation concentrate products that are collected are
stored in Intermediate Bulk Shipping Containers which are palletized polyethylene
containers surrounded by a steel skeleton framework for protection from impact and
crushing. These containers measure approximately 42" cubic. At any time there may be
upto 30 of these such containers stored on site, staged prior to transportation offsite.
o Waste Products: Mill tailings will be re-impounded in the Tailings Disposal
Impoundment. See the appendix for a waste stream characterization of the solid and
liquid components of the tailings. Significant BMP's will address this area.
E
