Should the Contractor meet refusal during the jacking operation, the Contractor shall <br />determine the cause of the refusal and take additional measures required to proceed. <br />2. Hand mining may be performed to correct condition causing refusal. Conduct had <br />mining only in casings that are sufficiently large enough to permit personnel to <br />perform had mining. Provide adequate fresh air supply within the casing pipe and <br />conduct had mining in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Department of <br />Labor, Safety and Health Regulations for Construction, promulgated under the <br />Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (PL -91 -596) <br />3. Should it become impossible to proceed on the original alignment shown on the <br />Drawings, the Contractor shall notify the Engineer of the conditions, including the <br />cause of the refusal, and provide alternative solutions for the Engineer's evaluation. <br />Take only those actions required to protect people and property prior to approval of <br />selected alternative by the Engineer. <br />G.
