v^
s
pastures)
b. All areas shall be left in a condition equal to or better than it existed before
construction
c. Compact all material from 12" above top of pipe to surface to a minimum of 90%
of maximum density, at -1 to +3 of optimum moisture content as determined by
ASTM D69 or density of adjacent, undisturbed areas; the greater of the two
d. May be installed in any method as long as there is no adverse affects, possibility
or future possibility of damaging the installed pipe
H. Compaction
1. Place and compact backfill material around pipes with care in order to avoid
damaging pipe
2. Take measures when compacting backfill around pipe that the pipe maintains position
within the trench
3. Compact fill materials to the required densities
4. Use equipment that is suitable for the compaction of all backfill material
5. Do not operate equipment in close proximity of trench that would cause instability of
soil and failure
6. All costs of compaction testing shall be at the contractors expense
I. Grading
1. Once complete with trench work and backfill material is settled, perform finish
grading in accordance with the completed contour elevations and grades shown and
blend into conformation with remaining natural ground surfaces
2. Leave all finished grading surfaces smooth and solid to drain
3. Bring finish grades to elevations within +/- 0.1 ft
4. Surplus excavated materials from all excavations shall be disposed of by the
Contractor at his expense
3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Soil Compaction Tests
1. Conduct in accordance with requirements of ASTM D698
2. Provide standard proctor tests for each type of embedment or backfill material
proposed
3. Use test results as a basis for compaction control]
4. Conduct density tests during compaction operations in accordance with ASTM
specifications
5. Conduct a minimum of one test for each layer of specified depth of backfill every
1,000 ft or less
3.4 SCHEDULES
A. Pipe Embedment
1. Class "A"
a.
