E. Stover and Associates,
and Steve Viert, of Cedar Creek Associates. The subject of the conference call was details of reference
area comparisons to be used for demonstrations of re ve success for reclaimed areas at
Hamilton Mine. Mr. Stover is a consultant to and pennittin representative for Hone Coal
Compan the pennittee. Mr. Viert is a ve consultant who has been. contracted to perform
ve samplin and reportin for purposes of bond release reve success demonstration.
samplin
Cedar Creek Associates completed the 2010 ve samplin Hamilton Mine on Jul 25. The
X 4-11
operator will be usin the 2010 ve cover data to support the SL-2, Phase 11 bond release
application, currentl under review. The operator anticipates that 2010 cover, production, and species
diversit data will be used, alon with data to be collected in 2011, to support a future Phase III bond
release application.
Steve Viert explained the samplin approach emplo which varied in some respects from the
approach that had been anticipated. Rather than sample the entire mine area disturbance as one sample
block, Cedar Creek sampled the lar Mine Area I and the smaller Mine Area 3 as separate blocks,
with each area sampled separatel to sample ade for both ve cover and herbaceous
production. Mr. Viert indicated that the Mine Area I sample g rid was off-set 30 de from
North/South, to ensure that potential bias resultin from apparent North /South trendin patterns in the
ve stand was eliminated. Reference areas were sampled as previousl discussed; Sa
Reference Area A (SREF-A) and Sa Reference Area B(SREF-B) were sampled separatel to
ade while the split Grassland Reference Area units (north and south) were included in a sin
sample. For the Grassland Reference Area, the number of sample observations within the two
component units was proportional to the acrea of the component units. The reason for the differin
approach with respect to the reference area samplin is that the two sa reference areas were
established in separate y ears., while the split g rassland reference area was established in a sin y ear.
Off ice of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver * Grand Junction * Duran Active and Inactive Mines
