Reclamation Permit Amendment Application (M-1980-146: AM-04) -112c Page 16 of 27 <br />EXHIBIT J - Vegetation Information <br />U <br />1. Physiographic region: Colorado Plateau <br />2. Level III Ecoregion: Colorado Plateaus <br />3. Level IV Ecoregion: Semiarid Benchlands and Canyonlands <br />4. Physiographic Features: Benches, mesas, cuestas, alluvial fans, hillslopes, cliffs, arches, and <br />canyons. A few isolated peaks. Areas of low relief alternate with areas of high relief. <br />5. Typical Geology: Quaternary alluvium and colluvium. Tertiary and Cretaceous siltstone, <br />sandstone, claystone, oil shale, and marlstone. In deep canyons and cliffs: areas of Permian <br />siltstone, sandstone, and shale, and Pre-Pennsylvanian Paleozoic shale, limestone, and sandstone. <br />6. Elevation: 5400 to 9200 feet (Site is approximately 6800) <br />7. Local relief. 100 to 1000 feet (Site has approximately 200 before mining) <br />8. Natural Vegetation: Pinyon-juniper woodland, Gambel oak woodland, and sagebrush steppe with <br />black sagebrush, winterfat, Mon-non tea, fourwing saltbush, shadscale, galleta grass, and blue <br />grama. Previous reports indicated vegetation is predominantly Pinon and Juniper trees. There <br />is also Western Wheatgrass, Cheatgrass, Indian Rice grass, Squirrel Tail, Snowberry, <br />Mountain Mahoghany and Sand Dropseed. <br />9. Land use and land cover: Woodland and shrubland. Rangeland, recreation, coal mining, oil and <br />gas production. Oil shale extraction. <br />10. BLM Analysis of site: (23 FEB 2009, Jeff Redders, Ecologist, San Juan National Forest) <br />The project area is associated with pinyon-juniper woodlands and occurs at an elevation of about 7000 <br />feet. The following native seed mixture is suitable for this project area using a broadcast application. A <br />weed-free mulch applied immediately after the seeding is recommended. <br />11. Seed Mix to be used for all portions of the site which are to be revegetated: <br />Western Wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithii) 8 PLS*#/acre at $4.18/PLS# <br />Indian Ricegrass (Oryzopsis hymenoides variety paloma) 4 PLS#/acre at $15.84/PLS# <br />Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) 2PLS#/acre at $17.71/PLS# <br />Lewis flax (Linum lewisii variety Maple Grove) 2PLS#/acre at $31.68/PLS# <br />Antelope bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata) 4 PLS#/acre at $17.71/PLS# <br />Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana) 4 PLS#/acre at $12.65/PLS# <br />Big Basin Sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata tridentata) 2 PLS#/acre at $34.32/PLS# <br />* PLS = pure live seed <br />Note 1: prices provided by BLM, current Feb 2009; assumed subject to change. <br />Note 2: seed mix based on broadcast. <br />Note 3: assume 2 tons of weed free mulch per ton. <br />Note 4: See additional discussion in Exhibit E. <br />This page revised 5 July 2010.
