Comment:
2.05-23 & 24
Please include a discussion about the use of "light-use" roads for methane drainage operations.
Response:
References to Methane drainage wells, although not present in the "operations" section can be
found in Volume 11A of the permit document.
Comment:
2.05-56
In the seed mixtures discussion, please include the list of seed mixtures for the Paonia Ranger
District, agreed to by the Division and the FS per letter dated December 2, 2004.
-Response: - - - - - -- - -
A reference will be included on the USFS seed mixtures, it will be added to the document by
either an additional table or exhibit.
Comment:
2.05-97
The sentence, "The area is generally open to off-road motorized use, as identified on the
`Gunnison Basin Area' Nation Forest Map, "implies that the area around the West Elk Mine is
generally open to cross-country travel, when in fact the Gunnison National Forest prohibits
cross-country travel in motorized vehicles. Please reword this section appropriately.
Response:
The sentence in question, which implies off-road travel is permitted, will be deleted from the
document.
Comment:
2.05-166
Please acknowledge that loss of bedrock springs would have translated effects to habitat and
the ecosystem.
Response:
This acknowledgement is currently covered in the document.
With respect to our "General Comments" in the Jan 28, 2005 correspondence, MCC and the
USFS have discussed these items and they should be considered complete, with respect to the
permit revision process.
The USFS appreciates the opportunity to comment, and we look forward to continued
cooperation and information sharing. If you have any questions, please contact Ryan Taylor of
my minerals staff at 970-527-4131 or rztaylor(a)-fs.fed.us .
Sincerely,
LEVI K. BROYLES
District Ranger
Cc: Henry Barbe
