A
r
While the final reclamation plan calls for no ponds to be left, there will be a detention pond built during
operations to control silt. It is very important that this be built large enough to handle spring runoff as
Cloman Draw is a major contributor of silt to Pagosa lake downstream of this proposed operation. Even
though this pond will be temporary it will be an attractant to wildlife during periods of low human
activity. Therefore we recommend maintaining shoreline slopes not to exceed 4 horizontal to 1 vertical
distance to avoid entrapping wildlife. It is also important to ensure that fuels, oils, and/or other toxins are
kept out of the detention pond to avoid poisoning wildlife.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this proposal.
