July 12,2010 C-1981-012/New Elk Mine KAH
(green arrow), when full of water, could cause stability issues along the face of the fill or in the armored section of
this downdrain. Additionally, it appears that drainage coming from the RDA surface is not immediately entering
the sump but instead may be ponding(yellow arrows)along the terminus of the RDA access road. The operator
should review this area and make changes as necessary to ensure that storm romoff flows unimpeded to the sump
and downdmin on the way to pond S.
SUPPORT FACILITIES -Rule 4.04:
Work continues at numerous facilities around the site. Structural modifications are being done on the interior of
the preparation plant as well as the breaker building. None of these changes have resulted in an increase in the
size or configuration of these two bonded structures. Work also continues at the RDA conveyor, improving the
structure for operation in the near future.
SIGNS AND MARKERS—Rule 4,02:
The operator has partially painted existing disturbed area markers to improve visibility. Please ensure that all
markers are properly located and improved prior to the next State inspection. Also, consistent mine identifications
(mine ownership) signs should be established as noted in previous inspections, particularly at the south gate across
from pond 8 and at the pond 8 embanlonent.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 3 of 4
