to ensure that the high coarse fragment materials from the lower Bench 1 zone are not placed at the
surface as Bench 1 soil substitute on the Morgan East, or that mixing during operations is sufficient to
ensure that surface materials will meet the coarse fragment criteria. Thicker sandstone lenses that
occur higher in the Bench 1 overburden, or in the material salvaged as Lift B soil, should be segregated
and spoiled, to the extent practicable.
Sample #1
This was an approximate 2 foot channel sample from the lower portion of the exposed Lift B soil, on the
Morgan prime farmland in advance of the south end of the pit. Unconsolidated pink colored sandy
material. pH=7.7; EC=1.6 mmhos/cm; Estimated Texture=Loamy Sand.
Sample #2
This was a surface grab sample taken from the surface of the exposed upper Bench 1 overburden, on
the Morgan prime farmland approximately 40 yards north of the south end of the pit. Unconsolidated
tan colored sandy material. pH=7.6; EC=2.1; Estimated Texture=Loamy Sand.
Sample #3
This was a surface grab sample taken from the surface of the exposed upper Bench 1 overburden, on
the Morgan prime farmland approximately 150 yards south of the "BB" road corridor. Unconsolidated
tan-colored sandy material (somewhat lighter tan color than #2). pH=7.6; EC=3.4; Estimated
Texture=Sandy Loam.
Sample #4
Approximate 2' channel sample from lower Bench 1 overburden exposure, 3-5' above the base of Bench
1(crumbly, thinly bedded tan/gray SS/Shale strata ). Location approximately mid-way between the
south end of the pit and the "BB" Road corridor. pH=7.5; EC=3.1; Estimated Texture=Sandy Loam. Lab
report noted that more than 50916 of the sample was coarse fragments, larger than 2mm.
Sample #5
Tan clayey subsoil from bottom 12" section of "soil island" left intact following salvage on the non-prime
WFC (former Johnson) property. pH=7.8; EC=0.8; Estimated Texture= Clay Loam.
Sample #6
Light tan clayey material from surface of exposed Bench 1 overburden adjacent to the soil island from
which Sample #5 was taken. Material slightly lighter color than #5 subsoil, but quite similar in
appearance (and in chemical and physical parameters analyzed). pH=7.9; EC=0.7; Estimated
Texture=Clay Loam.
