June 30,2010 C-1980-005/Seneca II Mine S131
REVEGETATION—Rule 4.15 -Vegetative Cover;Timing:
Revegetation at the Seneca II Mine continues to thrive. Weed control efforts over the past several years
have noticeably reduced the weed component in the reclaimed areas. I noticed a marked reduction in the amount
of Canadian thistle. I did see a couple of white-top patches. One was on the east side of SIIPM-8 approximately
in the mid-point of the drainage, below any of the V-ditches. The second patch I observed was on the adjacent to
the upper most rock check dam on SIIPM-1 8.
We walked an area dominated by yellow sweetclover on a lower slope of the East Wadge area. This is a steep-
slope where Seneca roughened the slope with dozer basins. Some interseeding to improve the species diversity
may be warranted in this area.
The Wolf Creek pre-law area was inspected. The large gullies so apparent in 2005 have been regraded, treated
with lime and the area is stabilizing. Vegetation is establishing, more noticeably on the southern end. Vegetation
cover on the northern part is sparser, but is apparent. A healthy cattail population has established in the pond.
SUPPORT FACILITIES -Rule 4.04:
The office/shop/warehouse area has been cleaned up considerably since I last observed it. All storage
tanks have been removed and most of the remaining equipment is gone. The area will be redeveloped for the Sage
Creek Mine.
SIGNS AND MARKERS—Rule 4.02:
Issuance of the new Sage Creek permit is imminent. Seneca has posts along the Seneca II permit
boundary. A mine entry sign will be needed at the entrance to the Seneca II reduced permit boundary.
