(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1982-090
INSPECTION DATE 5/27/10
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
This inspection was performed by the Division as part of its monitoring of Hard Rock/Metals 112 permits. The site was not
active at the time of the inspection, and the operator was not present during the inspection. The permit ID sign was
observed at the entrance to the site. The site has been in the phases of final reclamation for several years. All
reclamation activity has been within the permit boundaries.
Major reclamation earthwork occurred in 2007, and revegetation activity was continued. A bond reduction request was
approved at that time, with future reclamation and monitoring currently focusing on stability and settling of new earthwork,
erosion of tailings slopes, drainage controls, and revegetation establishment (including noxious wed control).
All earthwork appeared to be stable. All former milling foundations and debris are still buried, filled and graded slopes
have not settled or failed, no erosional features were noted, and drainage appears adequate. No disturbance has
occurred to the pre-law tailings on the eastern end.
Revegetation on the top of the northern tailings is still present (mainly narrowleaf cottonwoods and willows) but they
remain small, possibly due to the droughty setting or lack of fertility of the growth medium. No chlorosis (yellow foliage
due to metals toxicity) is apparent. The grasses seeded on the top of the southern tailings appear to be establishing.
Both tailings areas should continue to be monitored, and if another application of fertilizer or soil amendment is needed it
should be performed. No noxious weeds were observed, including along the county road.
The 14 level portal continues to discharge through a flume and weir to Imogene Creek, and into Canyon Creek, as
approved under the discharge permit. Drainage from stormwater and upland runoff is captured on the southern tailings
and routed to the east end of the permit where it percolates into the pond.
The former location of the sediment pond, on the west side of Imogene Creek, exhibits a bit of seepage. The seepage is
clear, with no turbidity or staining. Runoff and discharge are no longer routed to the pond as in the past, and the pond
was backfilled and the liner folder in, during reclamation in 2006-2007. If the liner itself was not breached it might be filling
with percolated precipitation and releasing the excess accumulated during spring. This feature should be checked later in
the summer and fall, and remedied if seepage continues.
The current bond amount, based on bond reduction revision SR-2 in 2007, still appears adequate.
No further items were observed during the inspection. Responses to this inspection report should be directed to this
inspector at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 691 County Road 233, Suite A-2, Durango, Colorado 81301.
(Please note: As of 7/1/08 the Durango Field Office moved to the new address, shown above.
