(Gr enti Farms) Pit
DMG File No. M-2001-005 ?
Sec. 13, T19S, R69W, 6th P.M.
Water Division 2, Water District 12
ct
Dear Mr. Weber:
h 1, 2010 th
303-806-8952
We have reviewed your January 5, 2010 request for a substitute water supply plan on
behalf of Transit Mix Concrete Company. The required $257 fee has been received. The most
recent approval for a substitute water supply plan ("SWSP") is dated May 10, 2004. A well permit
has been issued for this gravel pit (well permit number 61403-F). This SWSP request was
submitted according to C.R.S. § 37-90-137(11).
PLAN OPERATION
Transit Mix has a lease agreement with the Grisenti's to mine sand and gravel from about
100 acres of land along the Arkansas River east of Florence. The recently completed Phase 1
mining operation covered 35 acres. The Phase 1 pit was filled with water by an administrative
exchange during December 2009 resulting in a 19 acre pond whose surface is in equilibrium with
the water table. The Phase 1 pond will serve as the settling pond for the Phase 2 operation that is
currently underway. The attached Figure 2 shows the project phases.
DEPLETIONS
The depletions of this operation consists of 57.66 acre-feet of evaporative loss from the 19
acre exposed surface of the Phase 1 pit, 7.65 acre-feet of water removed via 260,000 tons mined
product (4% loss by weight), and 5.01 acre-feet pumped for dust suppression. The pit will be
located less than 100 feet from the Arkansas River, and so the depletions are considered to be
instantaneous. A monthly breakdown of these amounts is given in Table 1, attached. Total
depletions from mining activities are estimated to be 70.33 acre-feet for the 2010-2011 accounting
year.
RECFI EEN
Office of the State Engineer 3 Q 2010
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303-866-3581 • Fax: 303-866-3589 JUN www.watenstate.co.us oivisinri c?: riauNnano ,
Mining and SafetY
