• <br />West Elk Mine 2009 Annual Hydrology Report 27 <br />3.2.4 Springs above the E-Seam in the Minnesota Creek and <br />Dry Fork Drainage Basin <br />3.2.4.1 Spring J-4 <br />Spring J-4 is located in East Gulch, East of Horse Gulch and is tributary to Dry Fork and <br />Minnesota Creek (Map 2). It is situated south of the SE B-seam mine panels and north of the SOD <br />mine plan area. This spring issues from alluvium, is seasonal, and flow is significantly reduced or <br />dry in late summer or autumn. Monitoring at this spring began in 1981. <br />3.2.5 Spring Monitoring Sites Added in WY 2006 <br />3.2.5.1 Spring 35-3 <br />Spring 35-3 is located in upper Deep Creek which is tributary to the North Fork (Map 2). <br />This spring is located east of the SOD mine plan area. The source of this spring appears to issue <br />from alluvium. This spring has perennial flow, but shows strong seasonal variations with high <br />flows in the spring months. This spring has been monitored since 2006. <br />3.2.5.2 Deer Creek Snrin <br />Deer Creek Spring is a decreed domestic spring located in Deer Creek which is tributary to <br />Dry Fork. It is located in the SOD mine plan area that is scheduled for development between 2011 <br />and 2018. The source of this spring is not known. This spring typically has perennial flow, but <br />shows strong seasonal variations with very low flows in the late summer and autumn months. This <br />spring has been monitored since 2006. <br />3.2.5.3 Spring WCC-24 <br />Spring WCC-24 is a perennial spring located in a small unnamed tributary on the south <br />side of Dry Fork (Map 2). It is located west of the SOD mine plan area. The source of this spring <br />is not known. This spring typically has perennial flow, but shows strong seasonal variations with <br />the highest flows occurring in the late summer autumn months. This spring has been monitored <br />since 2006. <br />3.2.5.4 Spring J-2 <br />Spring J-2 is located in Lick Creek which is tributary to Minnesota Creek (Map 2). It is <br />located south of the SOD mine plan area. The source of this spring appears to issue from <br />colluvium. Flow is typically less than 0.5 gallons per minute and does not show strong seasonal <br />variation. This spring has been monitored since 2006. <br />3.2.5.5 Spring J-7 <br />Spring J-7 is located in Poison Gulch which is tributary to Dry Fork (Map 2). It is within <br />the SOD mine plan area. The source of this spring appears to issue from alluvium. This spring is <br />• seasonal and flow only occurs during peak flow conditions.
