West Elk Mine 2009 Annual Hydrology Report 24 <br />3.2.1.6 Springygy <br />Spring G-7 is located in a western tributary of Sylvester Gulch and is situated south of the <br />NE B-seam mine panel area and north of the SE B-seam panel area (Map 2). This spring issues <br />from joints in a sandstone ledge and has perennial flow, but shows strong seasonal variations with <br />high flows in the spring months. Monitoring at this spring began in 1977. <br />3.2.1.7 Wiring G-16 <br />Spring G-16 is located in Sylvester Gulch east of the NE mine panel area (Map 2). This <br />spring issues from a sandstone bed above the F-seam and flows seasonally. It is typically dry in the <br />late summer and fall. Monitoring at this spring began in 1979. <br />3.2.1.8 Springy G-24 (Decreed Spring #8) <br />Spring G-24 is located in Sylvester Gulch east of the NE B-seam mine panel area (Map 2). <br />This spring issues from alluvium and is measured at the outflow of a plastic drainage pipe. It flows <br />seasonally and is typically dry in the late summer and fall. Monitoring at this spring began in <br />1979. <br />3.2.1.9 Spring G-14 (Decreed Spring #7) <br />Spring G-14 is located in Sylvester Gulch east of the NE B-seam mine panel area (Map 2). <br />This spring issues from fractures in the base of a sandstone bed. It flows seasonally and is typically <br />dry in the late summer and fall. Monitoring at this spring began in 1977. <br />3.2.1.10S <br />pring G-22 (Decreed Spring #3) <br />Spring G-22 is located in the Sylvester Gulch drainage on a hillside on the west side of the <br />drainage, just south of a mine ventilation shaft and east of the NE B-seam mine panel area (Map 2). <br />It issues from alluvium over a wide area and feeds a wetland on the west side of Sylvester Gulch. <br />Flow diminishes in late summer and autumn. Monitoring at this spring began in 1977. <br />3.2.2 Springs above the B-Seam in the Box Canyon Area in the <br />North Fork Drainage Basin <br />3.2.2.1 Spring 11-2 <br />Spring 11-2 is located east of Box Canyon on a hillside on the south side of the North Fork <br />(Map 2). This spring is situated north of the Box Canyon B-seam panels. It issues from alluvium <br />below a sandstone cliff, has seasonal flow, and is often dry in summer and autumn. Monitoring at <br />this spring began in 2000. <br />3.2.2.2 Spring 10-1 <br />Spring 10-1 is located on the east side of Lower Box Canyon (Map 2). It is situated north <br />of the Box Canyon B-seam panels and issues from alluvium on slopes tributary to the North Fork. <br />• <br />June 2010 HydroGeo, Inc.
