III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DRMS. The Ohio Creek Mine is a
revoked and reclaimed underground coal mine that is inspected twice a year. The weather was hot and partially
cloudy.
Facilities
The entrance gate of the fenced-in portion of the reclaimed site was open. The fence that surrounds a portion of
the site was in place.
Hydrology
The sediment pond was dry. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable. The pond
inslopes also were stable. The open channel spillway was clear of debris. The inlet to the culvert that is located
at the entrance to the fenced-in site could use a little maintenance but appeared to be functional.
Topsoil Stockpile
The topsoil stockpile had a good vegetative cover. No problems with erosion were observed on the stockpile and
the topsoil sign was up.
Reclamation
There were no indications of erosional gullying or slope instability with the backfill. Overall, there was a
moderate vegetative cover on the reclaimed area. However, a few nearly bare spots remain.
c: /word2007/ohiocreek/inspO6 l 0
