The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33,
Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on June 24, 2010, an application to renew an
existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Seneca H-W Mine was considered complete for the
purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act
and the Rules initiate from this date of filing.
Seneca Coal Company, LLC proposes to continue surface coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land
located approximately 9 miles South of Hayden, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows:
T5N, R88W; All of Section 15; Portions of Sections 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 34, and 35
T6N, R8 8W; Portions of Sections 14, 23 and 24
T6N, R87W; Portions of Sections 17, 18, 19
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Hayden Gulch., Hayden,
Dunckley and Mt. Harris.
This application is for renewal of the mining and reclamation permit for the Seneca fl-W Mine for an additional
five year permit term. Coal extraction has been completed at the mine and continuing activity under the
permit will be limited to reclamation, maintenance, and monitoring.
No additional surface disturbance is proposed as a result of this revision application. Coal extraction and mine pit
reclamation operations have been completed, with continuing activity limited to smaller scale reclamation of
ancillary facilities, monitoring, and maintenance. As a result, the Division does not anticipate additional impacts
to wildlife. During the renewal adequacy review, the Division will ensure that the fish and wildlife sections of the
application are up to date and contain necessary information and documentation. A notice of the renewal has been
provided to OSM and the Division will coordinate with OSM during the adequacy review. The OSM will
