Pineda <br />Director <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, <br />Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on June 24, 2010, an application to renew an <br />existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Seneca H-W Mine was considered complete for the <br />purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act <br />and the Rules initiate from this date of filing. <br />Seneca Coal Company, LLC proposes to continue surface coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land <br />located approximately 9 miles South of Hayden, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />T5N, R88W; All of Section 15; Portions of Sections 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 34, and 35 <br />T6N, R8 8W; Portions of Sections 14, 23 and 24 <br />T6N, R87W; Portions of Sections 17, 18, 19 <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Hayden Gulch., Hayden, <br />Dunckley and Mt. Harris. <br />This application is for renewal of the mining and reclamation permit for the Seneca fl-W Mine for an additional <br />five year permit term. Coal extraction has been completed at the mine and continuing activity under the <br />permit will be limited to reclamation, maintenance, and monitoring. <br />No additional surface disturbance is proposed as a result of this revision application. Coal extraction and mine pit <br />reclamation operations have been completed, with continuing activity limited to smaller scale reclamation of <br />ancillary facilities, monitoring, and maintenance. As a result, the Division does not anticipate additional impacts <br />to wildlife. During the renewal adequacy review, the Division will ensure that the fish and wildlife sections of the <br />application are up to date and contain necessary information and documentation. A notice of the renewal has been <br />provided to OSM and the Division will coordinate with OSM during the adequacy review.
