The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article
33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on June 24, 2010, an application to
renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Seneca 11-W Mine was considered
complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface
Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing.
Seneca Coal Company, LLC proposes to continue surface coal mining reclamation operations on land
located approximately 9 miles South of Hayden, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows:
T5N, R8 8W; All of Section 15; Portions of Sections 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 34, and 35
T6N, R88W; Portions of Sections 14, 23 and 24
T6N, R87W; Portions of Sections 17, 18, 19
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Hayden Gulch,
Hayden, Dunckley and Mt. Harris.
This application is for renewal of the mining and reclamation permit for the Seneca H-W Mine for an
additional five year permit term. Coal extraction has been completed at the mine and continuing
activity under the permit will be limited to reclamation, maintenance, and monitoring. No changes to
the approved operations or reclamation plan are proposed in the renewal application.
The above referenced permit renewal application would not incorporate additional lands into the permit
area or otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures.
A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection at the Hayden Public Library, 201 E.
Jefferson Avenue, Hayden, CO 81639-1813, and at the Division office, Room 215, 1313 Sherman Street,
