Please find enclosed a copy of the 2-Dam
grout compressive strength test results from the re-coring and sampling that took place on
Tuesday, November l4, 2000.
Re-coring of the grouted 2-Dam decant lines took place per the verbal agreement between
the Division and Climax Molybdenum Company (CMC) to reassess the non satisfactory
results of the initial compressive strength tests. CMC feels that these new results are
satisfactory and back up the initial statements from Denver Grouting that sub-par fiyash
received during the project had caused the grout to cure more slowly. Although the test is
still not in compliance with the specification of 3,000 psi, it is widely agreed that this initial
specification is way in excess of what is required to have a well engineered and safe decant
line closure. CMC respectfully requests that the Division grant final approval on this part
of TR-09 despite this discrepancy.
Please feel free to call if you have any questions or are in need of any fiuther information.
T can be reached at (303) 569-3221 ext. 2214.
Very truly yours,
Erich Bower
Environmental Engineer
Enclosure
Cc; Mke Ley -- Climax
Rich Wagner - Climax
