MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1980-136 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS DMC
INSPECTION DATE:
6/9/2010
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted in response to a request for a Technical Revision (TR3) to DRMS Permit file M-1980-136,
submitted by Lafarge West, Inc. The Chambers Pit is located just west of the town of Eagle, accessed from the
Fairgrounds road. Sean Frisch, Land Coordinator with Lafarge West, Inc., and Jenna Skinner-Markowitz, with Knight
Planning, were present during the inspection. Photographs taken during the inspection are included at the end of this
report, with the red line representing the property boundary, and the blue arrow representing the direction and origin
of the photograph.
A mine identification sign has been posted at the scale house. The sign faces NW and so is only clearly visible to outgoing
traffic. Pursuant to Rule 3.1.12 a sign should be posted at the mine entrance, clearly visible from the access road. The
mine site boundaries are clearly marked with berms, monuments and fencing.
TR3 includes further mining of areas B and D, both of which have been previously mined. Upon reclamation of area B, a
new ball field will be constructed in this area (Figures 1-2). Once the ball field is constructed, then mining in area F may
commence (Figure 3-4). Several stockpiles are located in area B, but no structures have been built. The asphalt plant
area located in Area D will remain there to be utilized during the mining of Areas E and F (Figure 2). A berm has been
built along the south side of the property, adjacent to the north side of Schumm ditch, that is approximately 20 feet
above the Eagle River floodplain. This berm will remain after mining, with minor regrading occurring during reclamation.
The slopes west and north of area B have been graded to less than or equal to 3H:1V and are well vegetated, with no
noxious weeds observed during the inspection.
Mining was actively occurring in area E during the time of this inspection. The height of the highwall appeared to range
from 40-60 ft. with slopes ranging from 1H:1V to 2H:1V (Figure 4). An access road will be built in the NE corner of this
area pursuant to TR3.
No evidence of erosion or off site damage, noxious weeds on site, or other problems or violations were observed during
the inspection.
An updated estimated adequate Financial Warranty amount has been calculated for the site, and is included with this
report.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Dustin Czapla at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3`d Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number
(970) 243-6299.
Inspection and Enforcement Contact:
Sean Frisch
Lafarge West, Inc.
10170 Church Ranch Way, Suite 200
Westminster, CO
80021
Cc:
CE:
BLM:
FS:
HW:
HMWMD (CH):
SE:
WQCD (CH):
Other:
