Fertilization: Fertilization should be based on soil tests. In the absence of a soil test,
apply a starter fertilizer at a rate of 40 pounds of available nitrogen and phosphorus
per acre (harrow into the soil) during the last operation of seedbed preparation.
6.) Mulching: Clean, weed free mulch such as grass or straw hay averaging at least
8 inches in length should be applied at a rate of 4000 lbs./ac, with a goal of
obtaining 50-60% cover. Anchoring by crimping should be done to a depth of
approximately 4 inches. Slopes must be mulched. At least 50% of mulch by weight
should be 10 inches or longer.
7.) Post Emergent Weed Control: Mowing to control competitive weeds shall be
done to improve the establishment of the seeding. Once grass reaches the 3 to 5
leaf stage, herbicides can be used to control weeds, especially noxious weeds.
These early emerging grasses can be setback by herbicide if applied too early in
their development. Follow all instruction on herbicide labels. Caution should be
taken when using herbicides close to water, and only those approved for use near
water should be used.
8.) General Additional Comments from NRCS: Contact USACE for appropriate
clearances, keep all equipment and fuel storage tanks away from any drainages,
and take reaspnable precautions, such as berms, to prevent contaminants from
entering the drainages.
Exhibits for 112(c) AM-02 Application -M-1994-108-2010- Page 55
