(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1985-091
INSPECTION DATE 06/18/2010 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS PSH
OBSERVATIONS
The Salida Pit, File No. M-1985-091, was inspected by Peter Hays with the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety (Division) as part of the Division's monitoring inspection program. Mr. Joe Nelson with Chaffee County
Road and Bridge was contacted prior to the inspection, but was not able to attend the inspection.
The Salida Pit is located 0.5 miles south of Salida, Colorado in Chaffee County off of County Road 107a. An
entrance sign was posted as required by Rule 3.1.12. The affected area boundary markers were missing or
lying down. This is a problem for failure to maintain boundary markers around the affected area as
required by Section 3.1.12(2) of the Rule. The current pit is defined by County Road 107a to the north and
west, County Road 107 to the south and a natural wash gully to the east. The site was previously inspected by
the Division on August 23, 2005.
The Salida Pit is being actively mined by Chaffee County Road and Bridge according the Mr. Nelson and the
observations of this inspection. The gully observed in the southwest corner of the pit during the previous
inspection has been repaired by the Operator and the south and east slopes have been terraced to prevent
erosion. Two large stockpiles of waste rock and pit run were located in the southeast corner of the pit floor.
The pit floor was flat, dry and contained no vegetation. The Mining Plan Map on file with the Division does
not match the current access road configuration or mining disturbance. The Division recommends the
Operator submit a technical revision per Rule 1.9 with the appropriate $216 fee to update the Mining Plan and
Reclamation Plan Maps to depict the future mining disturbance and reclamation at the Salida Pit. The current
mining activity appears to be reaching the limits of the existing 9.72 acre pit. A future 20 acre pit is located
east of the wash gully.
The approved post mining land use is commercial/industrial. The south, east and west slopes have been
graded to 3H:1V and vegetation is establishing. No topsoil stockpiles were observed, however several
unidentified stockpiles are located north of the pit which could be topsoil.
Insoection Contact Address
NAME Joe Nelson
OPERATOR Chaffee County Road and Bridge
STREET P.O.
