VEGETATION
In 2007 four upland vegetation types were mapped at the reconnaissance level within the project
area, during Block clearance studies. These types range from tree-dominated communities to
those dominated by grass and forb species. Riparian areas are very limited and are only found
along narrow corridors. Those vegetation types such as aspen and riparian areas that support
high numbers of wildlife from spring through fall lack the conditions necessary in winter to
support support more than low numbers of wildlife. The importance of these types to wildlife
during winter months is affected by the depth of snow.
Upland Plant Communities
Picture 1 - Taken looking East across the E-Seam panels 1 and 2 area.
5
The Oak Vegetation Community is essentially ubiquitous across the project area occurring on
ridge slopes, along ephemeral drainages, and over level to moderately rolling mountain
meadows.
