than Tuesday, April 25, 2000. It is anticipated that the Project will be completed in four days.
TASK 1 REMOVE, HAUL AND DISPOSE OF SLASH AND EARTHEN MATERIALS
A slash material pile is located near the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT)
highway construction project office. This office is located approximately one mile east of the
Hawks Nest Mine adjacent to Highway 133 at the Gunnison County Road Maintenance Shed.
Organic material and topsoil have been salvaged from the footprint of the on-going highway
construction job. This material is stockpiled immediately west of the CDOT office. This
stockpile will be removed to the Hawks Nest Mine during completion of this Project.
The stockpile is estimated to contain approximately 3,700 cubic yards of material. The material
in the stockpile consists of brush and timber slash, as well as soil materials. The brush and
timber varies in diameter from less than one inch to over twenty four inches. It is assumed that
the average diameter is less than six inches. Some of the material consists of shrubs and
willows, while some trees are present. Some of the trees have large root balls in place.
In addition to the organic materials, dirt and soil are also present. A small volume of trash,
concrete and larger rock (over eighteen inches in diameter) are incorporated into the pile.
All of the material in the stockpile, excepting the trash, concrete and larger rock (over eighteen
inches in diameter) shall be removed from the stockpile area and will be delivered to the
designated disposal area at the Hawks Nest Mine. The material will be removed to ground
level throughout the footprint of the stockpile.
Smaller diameter materials, which are generally located near the top of the stockpile, are to be
segregated from the other materials. These materials will be delivered to an adjacent, but
separate, delivery location than the soil and coarse organic materials. The soil and coarse
organic materials will be placed together at the same delivery location without being
segregated.
Traffic control on Highway 133 at the access point to the stockpile will be provided by CDOT.
The disposal site is located adjacent to a limited access roadway, which experiences little traffic
volume. PROJECT MANAGER will notify adjacent landowners to watch for truck and
equipment activity prior to the work being initiated.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment for excavation of organic and earthen materials,
removal of trash, concrete and large rocks, transportation, segregation by size of organic
materials, and disposal of all materials in the designated disposal areas. Payment for Task 1
will be reflected in a lump sum bid under Item 1 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will
cover all costs associated with completing this Task to the specifications described herein.
Payment shall be as this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER.
3
