2.05 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND ACTIVITIES --
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR OPERATION AND RECLAMATION PLANS.
2.05.6 Mitigation of Surface Coal Mining Operation Impacts. (Cont'd.)
(3) (b) (iii) (Cont'd.)
station on the West Fork of Terror Creek (SW-1) and Main Roatcap Creek (SW-11) measures flow
through an existing culvert and a concrete rectangular weir, respectively.
Each month, the flumes and recorders were maintained, flow readings recorded, and field
parameters measured. Quarterly, water samples were taken for laboratory analysis. Results may
be seen in the Surface Water Appendix, Volume 4.
The stream gauge on the West Fork of Terror Creek, SW-1, is located in the SW/4NE/4 Sec. 5,
T1 3S, R91 W, of the 6th P.M. A 5 ft. high stilling well and housing containing a 32-day recorder was
attached to the wingwall of an existing culvert which passes under a maintenance road to the
Curecanti-Hayden powerline.
SW-2 is located on the East Fork of Terror Creek in the NW/4 SE/4 Sec. 5, T1 3S, R91 W, of the 6th
P.M. A 48-inch Parshall flume manufactured by the Thompson Pipe and Steel Company of Denver,
Colorado, was installed at this location.
The Stevens Gulch stream gauge, SW-5, is located near the timber storage area in the NE/4NW/4
Sec. 25, T1 3S, R92W, of the 6th P.M. A 36-inch Parshall flume was installed at this location.
SW-6 is located on East Roatcap Creek in the NE/4SW/4 Sec. 23, T1 3S, R92W, of the 6th P.M. A
36-inch Parshall flume was also installed at this location.
SW-9 was located on the upper reaches of East Roatcap Creek, below a diversion from the
Overland Ditch into the creek in the NEO SW"O Sec. 3, T1 3S, R92W, of the 6th P.M.. A stilling well
and recorder were attached to an existing 12-inch Parshall flume at this location. This stream gauge
was deleted from the monitoring program in 1986 because the primary diversion of the Overland
Ditch was changed to West Roatcap Creek from East Roatcap Creek. SW-9 was reinstalled on the
Overland Ditch diversion into West Roatcap Creek in the fall of 1988. The new installation is located
in the NE/4SE/4 Sec. 5, T13S, R92W, of the 6th P.M..
A stilling well and recorder were installed on a 30-inch Parshall flume on the Terror Ditch. This
stream gauge, SW-10, is located in the NE4/NE/4 Sec. 17, T13S, R91 W, of the 6th P.M.
SW-11 is an existing concrete rectangularweir constructed to measure flows in Main Roatcap Creek
and is located in the NW/4 Sec. 35, T1 3S, R92W, of the 6th P.M. A stilling well and recorder were
installed at this location.
The responsibility for monitoring points SW-01, SW-02, SW-04, and SW-10 will be assumed by the
Bowie No. 2 Mine. The Bowie No. 1 Mine will share data from SW-05 with the Bowie No. 2 Mine.
PR-04 - 117 - 06/10
