(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M_19R-5-9n.'1
INSPECTION DATE: In INSPECTORS INITIALS: R1
OBSERVATIONS
The Division conducted an inspection of the site part of sites to be inspected during the
fiscal years 2009-2010.Presnt during the inspection was Mr. Matt Welte of Summit Brick
and Tile.
The site is small 9.9 acre clay mine located approximately 35 miles of South West of
Pueblo Colorado. Access to the site is by driving to the Highway 10 exit, on I 25 south
(Walsenburg) exit in Huerfano County. When the site was last inspected, the operator was
given an option to either conduct the recommended to the operator to start reclaiming the
existing high walls prior to embarking along the south east side of the new active mining
area. Operator opted to conduct contemporaneous reclamation, in lieu of posting
additional warranty.
As requested, operator had sloped the high wall that was noted along the North and East
side of the active mining area, and has been exhausted of all resources. The slopes noted
wee 3:1 or gentler, top soiled and seeded. The active mining area along the South East
area, which was being drilled and for last hole at the time of the inspection had the top
soil stripped and some mining activity taking place. The deepest portion of the high wall
was approximately 4 feet deep orienting East to west. A small amount of processed clay
stockpiles were noted along the west side of the active mining area. Evidence of recent
removal of material was noted from one of the stock piles.
Mr. Welte stated that the material is hauled from site on as need basis by the sub-
contractor, who operates the site for Summit Brick and Tile. Top soil stockpiles were
properly marked and protected, given the nature of soil even with meager vegetation cover
No sign of major erosion features were noted.
Permit sign and boundary markers were properly placed. An old front end loader was parked
along the west side of the active mining area. The current warranty in the amount of
$19,350.0 is more than adequate to cover the cost of the current affected area, since the
operator had reclaimed the old high walls as recommended in the last inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: MR.MATT WELTE
OPERATOR: SUMMMIT BRICK AND TILE
STREET: ED-BOX 533
CITY/STATE/ZIP: PURR n.
