MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: m-t 99.5-n19
INSPECTION DATE: hint -9 9n]n INSPECTORS INITIALS: 11E
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection of the Mundell Estates No. 32 site, DRMS File No. M-1995-019, operated by
Baca County. This site is located approximately 11 miles northeast of Walsh, Colorado in Baca County. I, Jared
Ebert of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Jason
Freiberger an employee of Baca County accompanied me on the inspection.
This is a 112c mining operation for road base material with a permit area of 40.0 acres. An appropriate mine
entrance sign was in place. The northeast boundary marker was missing and the southeast boundary marker
appeared to be placed too far to the north. Mr. Freiberger went out the next day and replaced the missing
and incorrect boundary markers and sent photographic evidence of such (See Figures 8-9). Based on the
photographs and the site inspection, is appears the boundaries have been correctly marked and will not be
cited as a problem at this time.
The current excavation is located in the northeast portion of the permit area. Mining began in the north and
has proceeded to the south. The affected land was estimated to be approximately 15 acres in size. The
northern portion of the affected land has been graded to match the surrounding topography and native
vegetation has begun to establish in this area. Just to the south, near the current haul road, a large stockpile
of topsoil is in place. This pile had grassy and weedy vegetation established preventing wind and water
erosion. There is a horseshoe shaped pit excavation that daylights to the north. The southern and eastern pit
slopes are about 10-12 feet in height and have about 1:1 horizontal to vertical ratio side slope. The western
pit slope has been graded to a 3:1-4:1 slope.
Overall, the site appeared to be stable and the mining operation is proceeding in accordance with the
approved plan. Noxious weeds have not established extensively throughout the affected land; however,
several thistle plants were observed at the site (See Figure 2). The Operator will need to monitor these weeds
to ensure an infestation does not occur.
No problems were observed during the inspection.
Figure 1.)
