MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1978-99-51
INSPECTION DATE: h,ne 9, 9n1n INSPECTORS INITIALS: -1LE-
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection of the McVey Pit; DRMS file No. M-1978-225L, operated by Baca County.
This site is located approximately 11 miles east of Pritchett, Colorado in Baca County. I, Jared Ebert of the
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Clarence Stevenson of
Baca County accompanied me on the inspection.
This is a 160 acre 112c mining operation. The primary affected area is located in the northwestern corner of
the permit boundary. The total affected land was estimated to be about 15 acres based on the site
observations and a 2009 aerial photograph of the area. At this time, the Operator is only allowed to affected
20 acres of land at a time. Prior to affected additional land beyond the allowed 20 acres, the Operator will
need to reclaim portions of the affected land that will no longer be impacted by the mining operation, or
submit a Technical Revision to the current approved mining plan to increase the amount of affected land that
can occur at any one time during the mining operation.
The pit excavation is about 20 to 25 feet deep. The excavation is oval shaped with gentle pit slopes. The
Operator is excavating material at a 3:1 to 4:1 horizontal to vertical ratio. The operation is slowly advancing to
the north, south and to the east. A haul road runs from the entrance of the mine site to the base of the pit
where the mined material is stockpiled. Topsoil has been salvaged in advance of the excavation and placed in
various berms adjacent to the pit slopes. The topsoil berms appear stable with vegetative cover.
Figure 1.)
