MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: m-gnn.?-nA7
INSPECTION DATE: tune 1St gnin INSPECTORS INITIALS: 11F
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Carrizo Stone North pit, DRMS file No. M-2005-067. This site is
located approximately 22 miles southwest of Pritchett, Colorado in Baca County. I, Jared Ebert of the
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Ray Sikes of Carrizo Stone,
LLC. accompanied me on the inspection.
This is a 110c mining operation with a permit area of 9.9 acres. The Operator has affected approximately 8.48
acres of land. The majority of the site disturbance is made up of stockpiles of waste rock and topsoil, pallets of
assorted stone products, processing equipment, and a quarry area where the rock is mined. The quarry area is
located in the northern portion of the affected land. The quarry is a relatively shallow excavation with several
working benches that daylight to the south. Waste rock is stockpiled in various locations throughout the site.
Pallets of various sizes and shapes of stone products are located at the southern end of the affected land.
Topsoil is stockpiled in the northern portion of the affected land and it appears stable.
Mr. Sikes had the boundary of the mine marked with metal poles. However, they are not in the right location.
Mr. Sikes explained during the permitting process an error was made drawing the mining and reclamation plan
maps. He believes the north arrow was incorrectly placed on the map, inadvertently orienting the boundary in
the wrong direction. The marked boundary was mapped using a Trimble GPS unit and it does not correspond
to the current approved permit boundary. A map of the Division's findings is enclosed with this report. The
map depicts the boundary that is marked at the site, the affected land area, and an estimate of the location of
the current approved permit boundary. Based on these observations, it appears the Operator has affected
land outside of the approved eastern and western boundaries. Approximately 2.5 acres of land has been
affected outside of the current approved boundary. This issue is cited as a Possible Violation at the end of
this report and will require corrective action to be taken by the Operator.
Figure 2.)
