Specific completion dates have been required on mine sites when
reclamation completion did not adequately progress.
Tom Kaldenbach
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Phone (303) 866-3567, ext. 8128
From: tbird@gcc.com [mailto:tbird@gcc.com]
Sent: Friday, June 04, 2010 7:51 AM
To: Kaldenbach, Tom
Cc: dmeadors@gcc.com; tpeterson@gcc.com
Subject: King I Reclamation Timing
Mr. Kaldenbach:
I have a question concerning reclamation timing at the King I mine. We are doing some mine planning and budgeting
and are wondering if there are any specific dates that various phases of reclamation need to be completed? As you
know, we have removed several of the tipple structures, the power lines & poles, sealed the portals, etc. and are
continuing with demolition and cleanup as time permits.
As near as I can tell, the only mention in the permit text to timing refers to total actual time in weeks that some of the
various tasks will take. This appears to be in place for the purpose of preparing a reclamation bond estimate.
So, are there specific dates that the various reclamation activities need to be completed, or is continued due diligence on
our part acceptable to the Division?
Thanks for your input and continued assistance.
Tom Bird
Manager of Coal Services
GCC Energy, LLC
970.385.4528 x 6503
970.769.1160 Cell
