Ill. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an Aerial Inspection of the Hamilton Mine conducted by the Colorado DRMS on
Tuesday, 27 April 2010. Photographs taken during the inspection were reviewed by Marcia
Talvitie of the DBMS.
SL-2 Phase II Bond Release Reauest
• A bond release inspection for SL-2 has been scheduled for the 3rd of June, 2010.
Hydrologic Balance
• Ponds A and B were both dry at the time of the inspection.
• Pond C pre-existed the mine permit as a stock pond. Its use as a sedimentation control
pond was never realized, as Mining Area No. 2 was not disturbed.
Topsoil
• There remain portions of four separate topsoil stockpiles that are posted with signs and
protected by fencing to prohibit human and livestock access (Photo No. 1):
1. Topsoil Stockpile #1, near Pond A
2. Topsoil Stockpile #2, west of Pond C
3. Topsoil Stockpile #3, east of Pond C
4. Topsoil Stockpile B, south of Pond B
Reclamation Success
• Areas of the Hamilton Mine that were disturbed and subsequently reclaimed are clearly
discernible from the air (Photo Nos. 2 and 3) due to the lack of sage brush and juniper-
pinyon growth. These species were specifically excluded from the seed mix in order to
maximize the amount of forage material (grasses, forbs and shrubs) available to meet the
postmining land uses of rangeland and wildlife habitat.
This concludes the inspection report for the Hamilton Mine.
Hamilton Mine C-1991-078 20-May-2010
