• 2.05.3
(a)(vii) Blasting will be conducted in accordance with the following equation. The
maximum weight of explosives to be detonated within any 8- millisecond
period will be determined by the formula W = (D =D g ) 2 where W = the
maximum weight of explosives, in pounds, that can be detonated in any 8-
millisecond period; D = the distance, in feet, from the blast to the nearest
structure, dwelling, public building, school, church, community or institutional
building; and D = the scaled- distance factor which is 55 for distances from
the blast site of 301 to 5000 feet and 65 for 5001 feet and beyond.
To meet the maximum allowable peak particle velocity for ground vibration
contained in Rule 4.08.4(10), for a distance D from the blasting site of 800
feet, the Operator will not detonate more than 212 pounds of explosives
within any 8- millisecond period.
(viii) The applicant does not propose a permanent explosive storage area for the
site. The contractor responsible for the construction of the site will have a
temporary explosive storage area. The applicant, for the short term, will rely
on the Bowie No. 1 Mine for an explosive storage area.
• (7) Coal Handling Structures
A narrative of the coal handling structures is presented above in Section
2.03.3(3)(a).
