Based upon the conditions of Case 01CW23, an appropriate amount of land must be dried
up and an appropriate amount of surface water augmented back to the pond to cover ground
water depletions. From the area of exposed water, it is estimated that 5.6 acre-ft of ground water
was evaporated. It is estimated that an additional 0.6 acre-ft of ground water was consumed
through removal and washing of the extracted wet material. Consequently, 4.1 acres of land
historically irrigated needed to be dried up during 2009. In actuality, 80 acres of land previously
irrigated by the Fish Ditch in the S%2 of the SE% of Section 20, T3914, R8E, NMPM were dried
up, more than meeting the requirements of the plan.
It is estimated that the ground water evaporation (including both pond water surface
evaporation and the water consumed from the removal and washing of the mined material) was
6.2 acre-ft in 2009. Consequently, the augmentation requirement to the pond is 12.4 acre-ft. The
actual diversion records for the amount of water metered into the pond have been provided to
Mr. Joe McCann. Mr. McCann reported to me that 0.95 cfs was augmented on September 11,
2.3 cfs was augmented on September 12, 2.2 cfs was augmented on September 13, 1.4 cfs was
augmented on September 14, and 0.41 cfs was augmented on September 15 for a total of 7.26 cfs
or 14.40 acre-ft of augmentation recharge. As such, Mr. Bassi recharged enough surface water
to cover the augmentation requirements of the plan.
Please call me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this analysis.
Sincerely,
Kirk Thompson, P.E.
