Threatened and Endangered (T &E) Plant Species Inventory
A list of plant species was compiled that includes those with some form of protection in.
consideration of their rarity and that occur in Routt County or any adjacent county. Protection for
these plants was either in the form of designation as Threatened or Endangered under provisions
of the federal Endangered Species Act or in the form of administrative protection as "sensitive" by
either the U.S. Bureau of Land Management or the U.S. Forest Service. These plants are listed in
Table 23 of Appendix 2. Published records of the Colorado Natural Heritage Inventory (CNHI)
Database (Colorado State Department of Natural Resources) were used to assess known
distributions of species.
The floral inventory associated with mid - summer 2008 quantitative sampling afforded
opportunities to find any of the species listed in Table 23 such as they might have appeared at
that stage of the growing season. Inasmuch as many of these species bloom earlier in the
season and may senesce by middle summer, field surveys to ascertain their presence or absence
in the study area during earlier and later periods in 2009 will be conducted.
Noxious Weeds
• Plants present on the Routt County Noxious Weed list as well as those present on the Colorado
State Noxious Weed A and B list (Colo. Dept. of Agric. 2009) were identified. Their presence in
the study area was noted as field sampling progressed.
Livestock Carrying Capacity
The mine area herbaceous production data were used to calculate livestock carrying capacity for each
vegetation type. An animal unit month forage requirement for cattle of 900 lbs. of air dry matter, an oven -dry
to air -dry weight conversion factor of 1. 11, and an overall proper use factor of 50 percent were used in this
calculation.
RESULTS
Numerical data are found in Tables 1 through 20 of Appendix 1 and Table 21 through 24 of
Appendix 2. Sample data from the Mountain Brush Affected Area are presented in Tables 1
through 2. Sample data from the Sagebrush Affected Area are presented in Tables 3 through 4.
Sample data from the Improved Pasture / CRP Affected Area are presented in Tables 5 through
6. Sample data from the Seneca II Reclaimed Areas (BRB 2 and BRB 3) are presented in Tables
• 10
