Within each area, representative color photographs were taken to document the appearance of
the vegetation in 2008 (Appendix 4). Where appropriate, a placard identifies the particular area
and sample. For some minor types, photographs from previous work within the study area have
been used.
Statistical Methods
Sampling was conducted at randomly located sites.
DETERMINATION OF SAMPLE ADEQUACY
Sample adequacy was evaluated based on total live foliar cover by vascular plants using the
following expression:

d = Precision (0.10 for cover and production)
x = Sample arithmetic mean
t = The (a =.10) t -table value for a 1 tail t -test, n -1 degrees of freedom

ASSESSMENT OF REFERENCE AREA AND AFFECTED AREA COMPARABILITY
The comparability of affected and reference areas was calculated using the formula recommended by
CDRMS:
