The most recent official NRCS soil series description for
Winevada, dated February 1999, is on file.
An evaluation of soil suitability indicates the sampled Winevada pedon CC -6 is consistent
with the previous Seneca II Mine recommended topsoil salvage depth of 21 inches for Map
Unit 53F. The thickness of the mollic epipedon for sample site CC -6 is 24 inches, slightly
less than 26 inches but consistent with it.
Winevada Typical Sample "CC -6" Site and Soil Profile Description: Winevada loam was
fully described and sampled at one representative site, CC -6, located in a portion of the
NE1 /4 of the NE1 /4 of Section 13, T.5N., R.87W. The sample site is on a steeply
sloping ridge sideslope within the potential transportation corridor in the hilly ridge "gap"
area between the south end of the Seneca II Mine permit area and the north end of
Foidel Creek Mine permit area. Sample site CC -6 has 35% slope; NE aspect;
vegetation of oakbrush, snowberry, mixed grasses, and small presence of fir trees;
slopewash and colluvium from sandstone; stable surface with no erosion in the vicinity
of the sample site location.
Al horizon — 0 to 5 inches; very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) sandy loam with 10%
small angular sandstone gravel -size fragments, very dark brown (10YR 2/2) moist;
weak medium granular structure; soft, very friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic
consistence; many medium, fine, very fine, and common coarse roots; non effervescent;
• 11
