Webster Sand & Gravel
145 S. Toledo
Leadville, CO 80461
(719) 486-0427 (phone & fax)
Attention: Mary Rodriguez
Division Of Reclamation Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room215
Denver, Colorado 80203
May 20, 2010
Re: Annual Report and Filing Fee
Dear Mary,
I apologize for this report being so late. I am enclosing the 2009 yearly report and filing fee. I've
also enclosed a map showing current mining activity. This past year we have opened up
approximately 2.5 - 2.75 acres of land. This area is along the western portion of our pit as
designated in blue on the enclosed map. This area had many dead trees infested with pine
beetles. The topsoil from this area was stockpiled and will not be sold.. We are continuing to
mine southward from our previous position. Approximately eighty percent of our total product
sold each year is masonry sand. We process the top four to six feet of gravel for road base and
aggregate and underneath that is our main product of sand. We did not sale any fill dirt or top
soil in 2009 as we are saving this for future reclamation. No reclamation has occurred as there
are many years of product to be mined.
In the annual report for 2006, I enclosed a list of equipment and items sold at auction in June
2006. This resulted in a great reduction of equipment present at the pit.. I requested an
adjustment on the calculated cost of removal of the equipment at the pit and a corresponding
reduction in the required warranty bond. We are continuing to clean up our pit as there had
accumulated lots of scrap items since my grandfather started mining here in 1947. The following
is a list of our cleanup efforts for 2009:
-- scrap steel removed: 118.64 tons
-- electric motors scrapped and removed: 4.56 tons
-- misc. aluminum, copper, brass, and old radiators removed: 1.33 tons
-- Total tons of scrap removed: 124.53 tons
-- We also took four tandem dump truck loads of misc. trash, old wood and other debris
to the Lake County Landfill.
I recently received a letter inquiring about whether we had a water augmentation plan. We do
have a plan of augmentation, case no. 89 CW 21. We have stock in the Twin Lakes Reservoir &
Canal Company (certificate no. 8076).
Our mining activity is seasonal due to the weather at over 10,000 feet elevation. We usually start
mining by the latter part of May and cease activity around the first part of November. We haul
out of our stockpiles during the winter.
We are operating as Webster Sand & Gravel, LLC and our FEIN is We have three
trusts which are the owning members of the LLC. We are in the process of changing the name
on the financial warranty CD from the third party of the Charles J. Webster Estate to Webster
Sand & Gravel, LLC. Elizabeth Marry has been working with us and the people at American
