(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: -mod-1978-0.79
INSPECTION DATE: 5/18/ln INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: MAC
OBSERVATIONS
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division). Kenneth Morrison and David Seymour of Lincoln County were also present for the inspection. The
Daugherty Pit is located 7 miles south of Karval, CO. The site is permitted for 9.9 acres and the post-mining
land use is general agriculture.
The permit sign was posted at the entrance to the site and the affected area was clearly delineated per Rule
3.1.12. The Daugherty Pit. is operated intermittently; no mining was taking place at the time of the inspection.
Currently mining operations are progressing to the east. The Operator has salvaged and stockpiled topsoil on the
top of the east pit wall. The disturbed area was traversed with a GeoXT GPS unit. Following the inspection, the
data were downloaded into GPS Pathfinder Office software and the disturbed area was determined to be 4.67
acres.
The pit walls have been graded to 2.5H:1 V or flatter. The top of the southern pit wall is in line with the
southern permit boundary. The Reclamation Plan states the pit slopes will be reclaimed to 4H:1 V. In order to
achieve 4H:1 V slopes, the Operator would have to push material up the southern pit slope from the pit bottom.
This method would likely require the importation of structural fill material. An alternative to achieving the
required 4H:1 V slopes would be to increase the affected acreage through an Amendment to the Reclamation
Permit. This would allow acreage to be added to the south side of the pit and would facilitate the reduction of
the southern pit wall.
Minor erosion was noted on the pit slopes. This is not considered a problem as the material is not leaving the
site and the erosion is not affecting reclaimed areas. The Operator should monitor the slopes closely for
continued erosion. If erosion persists or worsens, then the Operator would be required to submit a Technical
Revision addressing stormwater management and final slope configuration.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Kenneth Morrison
OPERATOR: Lincoln County
STREET: P_n_ Rox 39
CITY/STATE/ZIP: HL,go c0 80891
