Division of Water Resources
RE. Gree%e Pit SWSP :: '
May 2S, 2010
Page 3 of4
REPLACEMENT SOURCES
Two replacement sources. are proposed to replace depletions from the Greeley Pit. J he first
source is a 6L7 acre-feet lease of augmentation water from the Graham Ditch Company that will.
Supply. replacement water during the months of May 2010 through October 2010. The second
source. is an 11.5 acre-feet tease of augmentation water provided by the Platte River Power
Authority- which. will provide. replacement water from November 2010 through - March 201.1
. .' Both sources are correctly located to make replacements to Ogilvy Ditch, which is the first
calling water right below the, Greeley Pit point of depletion.
61.7 acre feetAugmentation Lease from the Graham Duch Company
the lease of augmentation water from the, Graham Ditch Company consists of developed water
collected and delivered to the Cache la Poudre via the Graham Seep Ditch, the terminus ofwhich-
Is , located north of the city of Greeley. Deliveries to the Cache la Poudre are measured at a flume
.located approximately, 380 feet from the mouth of the ditch. Augmentation credit is determined
by multiplying measured deliveries by 47.5%; the lease obtained by Hiner consists of credit only,
and actual deliveries on Hiner's behalf will include additional water to account for-the 47.5%
factor: The deliveries will occur .during . the months of May through October, when. the most
upstream call affecting this reach is typically the Ogilvy Ditch. As shown on Figure 1, the.
:deliveries. are made to the Cache la. Poudre River adjacent to the estimated point of depletion
from the Greeley Pit; therefore, no transit losses need be assessed. The lease amount of 61.7-
acre-feet is sufficient to cover all depletions during the May through October timeframe. as
shown in Table No.. 3: A copy of the executed lease is attached.
:145 aere: feetAugmentation Lease from the Platte River Power Authority
-The lease of augmentation water from the Platte River Power Authority .consists of fully
consumable water released f
rom Fossil Creek. Reservoir. near the town of Timnath. These
`releases will occur during the .months. of November through March,. when the typical call
affecting this reach. is far downstream on the South Platte River. The releases are made to the
Cache.la Poudre.River approximately 26.6 miles upstream of the estimated point of depletion.
from .the Greeley - Pit; a transit loss of 0.25% per mile is assessed on all releases: The lease
amount of 11.5 - acre-feet therefore results in a credit. of -10.74 acre-feet; which is sufficient to
cover all depletions during the November through March timefiume as shown in Table No. 3. A
copy of the :executed lease is attached.
. OPERATION .OF- PLAN
Evaporative consumptive use from the Greeley Pit will be assumed to equal the values displayed
: in Column (G) -of Table No. 1 'for any given month. During the months of December and,
-: January, tlie, period :during.which.the exposed-.water surface-is covered in ice will be tracked to
verify that a credit for zero evaporation in those months is appropriate. Operational consumptive
Use. will be determined by tracking the number of tons of material produced plus the amount of
watendiverted for, dust control in a given month. Should these parameters fail to be adequately
tracked,,the operational consumptive use will be assumed to equal the values provided in Table
No. 2.' The number of days during which a valid senior call is active on this reach.of Cache la
Poudre River, will also be-tracked The monthly depletions that require replacement will equal
