6. Blasting
Blasting has taken place underground since the turn of the century and has not resulted in any damage to
any structure in the nearby area. Minor blasting of marble blocks on the surface may be used to
construct the sediment control system, in particular, the construction of Sump 4 and the ditch leading to
it. These blasts are very small and will not result in any damage to nearby structures. All blasts will be
performed according to MSHA procedures and will be designed to keep nearby structures intact.
The structures identified for the underground blasting are:
Private Trail: 195 feet at the closest point.
Old cable tower: 15 feet at the closest point.
Macintyre house: 1000 feet at the closest point.
Macintyre cable tower: 570 feet at the closest point.
The surface blasting for Sump 4 is the closest point of this type of blasting to the nearby structures:
Private Trail: 50 feet at the closest point.
Old cable tower: 415 feet at the closest point.
Macintyre house: 930 feet at the closest point.
Macintyre cable tower: 430 feet at the closest point.
7. Storage Area
The Storage Area in Marble, CO is used to store the marble blocks prior to shipment to customers. See
Map C-3 for the layout of this area. The area is flat and has not had any problem with erosion, stability,
etc. There are no fuels or other structures stored on this site. The 2010 Amendment will cover a larger
area than in the past, but this area is expressly for additional storage of cut marble blocks. See picture
below of the Storage yard area.
Yule Quarry April 10 34
