EXHIBIT B - SITE DESCRIPTION <br />1. Location and General Land Use Information <br />The Soderquist Pit is located south of Cimarron, CO along the Cimarron River. Historically the site has <br />been a ranch with a small gravel pit. The pit was established prior to the 1977 mining law, with the <br />current 110c operation permitted in 1987. The site currently consists of the mining pit, a small access <br />road from Cimarron Road, and a roughly 2,700 cubic yard gravel stock pile. Details of the mine's <br />current conditions can be seen on Map C-1. <br />2. Site Geology <br />The gravel on site is an alluvial deposit from the historical movement of the Cimarron River in the river <br />valley. The gravel is within a dryland terrace above 7300' in elevation. It is estimated to be between 20 <br />and 60 feet thick with no overburden and minimal topsoil present. The bedrock below the terrace is <br />estimated to be Mancos Shale at a depth of 60 feet. <br />3. Surface Hydrology <br />Surface water flows in the area proceed from the valley slopes on the east and west sides of river <br />downhill into the Cimarron River. The site itself sits roughly 200 feet above the river on the valley floor. <br />Storm water will flow down the valley slope to the west of the site, across the flat low lying areas <br />adjacent to the river, and then into the river itself. <br />No irrigation ditches or other man-made waterways pass through the site. <br />Soderquist Pit will be isolated from area surface water flows with a diversion ditch uphill of the pit <br />during mining operations. Precipitation that falls on the disturbed areas will be contained within the pit <br />until it either evaporates or infiltrates. <br />4. Groundwater Hydrology <br />No ground water has been encountered over the course of mining the Soderquist Pit to this point. The <br />water table in the area will be around 7200', over 200 feet below the maximum depth of mining. <br />Soderquist Pit March 10 4
