as described in the footnotes is vague ("up to potentially 3-4 feet"). Additional
clarification is warranted.
a. Please provide separate cross-sections for West Pit and South
Taylor soil replacement depths. South Taylor cross-section
should depict two separate replacement zones (upper and lower)
for slopes greater than 10%.
Colowvo's Response:
As agreed, Colotiiyo has further amended the genetic cross section to
provide additional clctrifrcation, precluding the need to provide separate cross-
sections.
b. Please specify both a range and average thickness for the thick
soil (lower V2 slope) replacement zone in the South Taylor Area.
Average thickness for these thick soil zones should be at least
30". Text and/or diagram footnotes for South Taylor will need
to specify that, within designated aspen and thick soil tall shrub
establishment areas, average replacement thickness will be at
least 48", regardless of slope grade (refer to excerpt from
CDOW letter on page 2.05-49, which recommends creation of
sites with extremely deep topsoil depths for the benefit of woody
species like aspen and chokecherry).
Colotivyo's Response:
As agreed, Coloit?yo has provided thickness ranges for the pertinent
locations, along the slopes in reclamation areas in the Sotith Taylor mining area.
As agreed, an additional footnote hvs been added to the cross section that states
"Specific details regarding Topsoil replacement depths on special planting areas
ii,ill he inchided in the description pi-w4ded for approval prior to the creation of
those areas ,
2. This question is based on the cross-sections as discussed in question 1 above.
Please include a generic cross-section for both the West Pit and the South
Taylor Pit, using the pit specific replacement zones in the appropriate cross-
section.
Colowti'o's Response:
Please see responses to Item I.
3. Response Accepted. Colowyo has provided the requested clarification regarding
the variable topsoil replacement plan. The text on pages 2.05-46 and 2.05-47
adequately addressed the Division's concern.
4. The Division requested that Colowyo include a current topsoil balance chart
addressing the current topsoil balance for various areas within the original permit
