Paragraph No. 6 is a false characterization of the Lyons Pit operation and its landscape
setting. Since Moffat County became the operator of the Lyons Pit No. 2, the project has
been in the midst of a fenced and irrigated hay field and/or dry cropland setting. We have
reclaimed, and taken releases on, cropland. Our post-mining use of the land will return to
the pre-mining use of dry crop (or irrigated crop) agriculture at the landowner's option.
Moffat County is the second largest county in the state. The County's highway system
has 1850 miles of road. Some are paved, and some are unimproved, but most of them are
well graveled. The County develops maintenance resources in areas where they are most
needed. All of Moffat County's pits are low volume facilities with a low potential of
doing great environmental damage to the land and competing resources.
Moffat County has 17 permitted gravel, sand, and clay pits in the inventory, and we have
only one crusher, which operates about seven months out of the year. Typically, we
expect to have new disturbance in two pits (or less), and we might have some pit-run
activity in one. That means that at least 14 pits in the inventory will have "stockpile
reduction activity only" for the year - sometimes for several years!
A seasonal closure on the Lyons Pit No. 2 (Amendment No. 2) mining operation from
January 1 to March 31 as specified in Paragraph #4 is unnecessary.
Respectfully submitted by: ,
Marvin Moore^
1570 Ranney St., Craig, CO, 8 25
(970) 824-9249
marvinmoorel249na msn.c6m
