Section 2.05.4(2)(e)
Revegetation
1.0 Introduction
This revegetation plan details the methods and materials required to revegetate and stabilize
lands affected by surface mining at the New Horizon 2 area and the amendment area. This
revised plan for PR 06 in 2009 incorporates the changes required by the prime farmland soil
determination by the NRCS in 2008 and other changes to post -mine uses due to water
availability.
2.0 Postmining Land Use
The primary goal of the land restoration of the permit area is to utilize the available water to the
extent possible to restore irrigated lands. Other lands will be restored to dryland pasture or
rangeland, which was also extensive in the pre- mining use. While all of the irrigated pre -mine
lands were wild -flood irrigated using gravity flow, WFC intends to use sideroll irrigation in much
of the restored lands, which is more efficient. WWId- ( irrigation means the water was simply
allowed to flow over the land at will, and some areas received more moisture than others. There
was no gated pipe, furrows or other methods controlling the water distribution. Some areas may
actually remain relatively dry due to slight elevation rises. The siderolls are very efficient in
providing a planned quantity of water equally distributed over a large area.
Forthe Permit Revision of 3009 -2010 the post- mining land uses and vegetation types have
been changed to reflect compliance with Rule 1.04. Where existing text refers to the past
vegetation studies of Section 2.04.10, these vegetation type names have not been changed. The
reclaimed lands have been re- classified according to Rule 1.04 and have new names. A
discussion of each post- mining land use /vegetation type is included in this section. Map 2.05.4 -5
has been revised to show the new post -mine classifications of land use and vegetation types.
Based on DRMS concerns over water availability to sustain irrigation after bond release, some
previously designated irrigated pasture areas have been converted in the revegetation plan to
dryland pasture. The NRCS also re- evaluated the soils in the permit area and identified certain
soils as primefarmland oils. Based
PR -06 May 2010 2.05.4(2)(e) -1
